All 16 clubs nominate Chiwaula for Sulom veep post
It will be a bed of roses for Super League of Malawi (Sulom) acting vice-president Ronald Chiwaula who will be ushered in unopposed for the veep post ,having been nominated by all the 16 clubs.
This is the first time in recent years for an aspirant for a Sulom post to be nominated by all the teams.

The flagship league is expected to fill the post during its annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for March 1 Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.
Audit firm Crowe J & W, which is handling the election, yesterday confirmed that Chiwaula is the sole candidate for the election.
In an interview yesterday, the firm’s audit manager Chifundo Makande said: “I can confirm that all the 16 clubs have nominated one person that is Ronald Chiwaula.
“As of this morning, only two clubs, Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC, had not submitted their nominations, but they too have done the needful and it means we have closed the nominations.”
Chiwaula, who was elected Sulom executive member in February 2023, said he felt humbled by the clubs’ gesture.
“Words fail me, but I am so grateful and feel honoured by the trust the teams have shown in me and I do not take this for granted,” he said.
“If it goes like this and I am endorsed as vice-president, I will surely serve the teams to the best of my ability without fear or favour, but in the interst of the clubs and football in general.”
The former Civil Service United general secretary said he will continue to play his role in helping the president and the entire Sulom executive committee drive to revive, reform and rebrand.
Football analyst Kevin Moyo said in an interview yesterday that the development is a display of trust and confidence that the clubs have in Chiwaula.
“This is very rare. In fact, I have never heard about all the teams nominating one person for a Sulom post. It is now up to him to repay the clubs by performing according to their expectations,” he said.
The post of Sulom veep fell vacant when its occupant Colonel Gilbert Mittawa was ushered in as president in March last year to replace Fleetwood Haiya, who was elected Football Association of Malawi president in December 2023 after beating his predecessor Walter Nyamilandu.
Apart from the election, among others, the AGM is expected to review last season and plan for next season. It will also discuss the league’s finances.
